GODZILLA: ATTACK ON TOKYO

Godzilla suddenly attacks the First Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building.
The human race is determined to intercept Godzilla with a new super-weapon, the "Super X2 Kai", but...

■This is the third attack on Shinjuku since "Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah" was released in 1991!
For the first time in 33 years, Godzilla appears in the Shinjuku New Urban Center area since the 1991 attack on Shinjuku. After 33 years, Godzilla appears and destroys the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building with far more power than expected. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government scrambles the "Super X2 Kai," a dedicated Godzilla interceptor that had been secretly developed to intercept Godzilla, in an attempt to intercept Godzilla... What will become of the battle between "Godzilla" and "Super X2 Kai"? And will a savior appear?

■A 100-meter-sized Godzilla will appear before your eyes!
A life-size Godzilla will destroy the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building and appear before your eyes, a feat only possible through projection mapping on the largest scale ever achieved. You will be able to experience the real Godzilla, which no one has ever seen before, with your whole body!

■Using the Godzilla suit from the Heisei VS series
The 100-meter tall Godzilla from the "Heisei VS Series" will appear in this projection mapping. The Godzilla in the projection mapping was filmed using the Godzilla suit from the Heisei VS series, and the content was created by combining special effects and computer graphics. The powerful Godzilla, projected on the wall of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building on a life-size scale, will make a great stand against the "Super X2 Kai" and is a must-see!

  • Director : Kazuhiro Nakagawa

Godzilla is a globally popular content that Japan is proud of, with "Godzilla-1.0," a film commemorating the 70th anniversary of Godzilla's birth released last year, and "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" released in Japan on April 26, each a huge hit around the world. The Shinjuku area and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building have a deep connection with Godzilla.

In "Godzilla" (1984), the super-weapon "Super X" intercepted Godzilla in a fierce battle in Nishi-Shinjuku. In "Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah" (1991), the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building No. 1 appeared in the film. It was severely damaged in the fierce battle between Godzilla and Mecha King Ghidorah, adding to the impressive scene.
In 2015, a 12-meter-tall Godzilla head was created in Kabukicho, Shinjuku-ku, and Godzilla was appointed as a special envoy for Shinjuku tourism.

■What is "Godzilla"?
Since its appearance before us, the king of monsters has made his name known around the world.

The first film in the series, released in 1954, was an unprecedented hit, drawing an audience of 9.61 million. Since then, more than 30 films have been produced in Japan alone, and the total number of viewers for the series has exceeded 100 million. To this day, the series continues to enjoy broad popularity and overwhelming recognition among men and women of all ages. Godzilla, who has been portrayed as an existence beyond human understanding, sometimes plays an active role on the screen as a barrier that humans must overcome and sometimes as an ally of humans. Godzilla's themes reflect the social conditions of each era, and he has captivated the people of that era.

The popularity of Godzilla has transcended the oceans, and the new Hollywood version of "Godzilla x Kong: A New Empire" has been a huge hit in North America and other parts of the world.

Title/Producer/Team (6 works)

  • Dance of Lights / un1q (Tama Art University)

This work focused on expressing light as images and having the images follow the sound.

We are interested in the visual presentation of sound and music, and based on this philosophy, we created a three-part work that crosses over 2D and 3D.
The music was newly written by Ayako Taniguchi, a composer, and was carefully created to best express the delicate piano sound.
    Music provided by Ayako Taniguchi

  • Hz (Hertz) / STUDIO24 (Keio University)

Based on data from actual cities, this work depicts a journey of exploration through waves, the rhythm of Tokyo, etc.

The city rumbles. Light distorts. Waves interfere. Everything vibrates and is transformed by observation. On this unstable structure, only a definite rhythm is engraved. Is what we see the light emitted from the projector, or is it a false image created by the light? Based on data from the actual city, I created this work as a journey of exploration through waves, the rhythm of Tokyo, and a tribute to the culture that has been spun in this place.

  • Nontrivial Math / Daiki Mori (Musashino Art University)

This work features figures with a mathematical theme that unfolds while synchronized with music.

At first glance, mathematics appears inorganic and monotonous, but it can sometimes exhibit complex and organic behavior. By mapping them as graphics on the TMG building, we tried to create a space where people can experience mathematics.
We created this work so that visitors can enjoy the connections between the fields of mathematics and the way the TMG building is transformed by its strangeness.

  • Dream Trip / Kento Hosaka (Digital Hollywood University)

From happy dreams to nightmares, this work expresses the unexplained and uncontrollable world of dreams through a businessman.

There are many things about dreams that are still unexplained. At times we feel like we have seen the best movie of our lives, and at other times we feel as if we are left alone in the world. I wish I could dream only good dreams, but I cannot control them. I wanted to express such incoherent and absurd dreams through video.

  • zero sound:experience / suimeow (Musashino Art University)

This work allows visitors to experience the difference from reality under the theme of a club that experiences weightlessness.

Focusing on the high degree of freedom of visual expression and the use of projection mapping to show images in a visual space that emphasizes light and space, we created this work while considering how to make it possible to experience the difference from reality as the main axis of the work.
    * This film will be screened as soon as it is ready.

  • SYNTHECITY / DATETENO CHISEI (Intelligence at the helm) (Tokyo Communication Arts College)

A full CG video work set in Tokyo depicting the rhythm of a city where vast amounts of information and flows intersect.

SYNTHECITY” is a full CG video work that depicts the daily lives of people in the chaotic intersection of the Japanese city of Tokyo. The film incorporates the aesthetics of 90's anime, and with nostalgic and cyberpunk-like visuals, it depicts the chaos and systematic beauty of Tokyo. and systematic beauty of Tokyo. The synthesizer soundtrack is designed to allow the viewer to experience the symphony of the city.

Aimer / 800

This production depicts the feelings of anxiety, hesitation, and conflict depicted in the song through the flickering and noises of the images.

Aimer / 800

This new song is tied up as the theme song for the movie "Matching".
The song depicts the feelings of anxiety, hesitation, and conflict in the song as an emotional scene with overflowing words, shimmering images, and noise.
Starting with an anxious blue worldview, the song gradually begins to take on color while wavering, and the production pushes the viewer toward hope as they gradually move forward.
The light from smartphones and monitors is depicted here and there as the feelings and scenes of modern people, and eventually it is unleashed as a new light.

TOKYO CONCERTO

A spectacular projection mapping show created based on the concept of Tokyo's attractions "playing in concert" with music. Various essences of Tokyo are condensed into three movements, running from the past to the future. The first movement depicts the mysterious rising of the sun and the beginning of everything, followed by the natural charm of Tokyo. In the second movement, Edo, which used to be a countryside of rice paddies, is transformed into the birthplace of culture and eventually leads to the powerful Tokyo, which has developed into one of the world's most prominent cities. The second movement depicts the diverse activities and cultures of the people of Edo. The third movement depicts the technology and power that Tokyo possesses as it leads into the future, and the positive creativity of the future emerges.

The music will be composed by Hideaki Takahashi, a musician active both in Japan and abroad, including Team Lab. The classical and grandiose first movement is followed by a festive band music in the second movement, and a fast-moving techno music in the third movement. Each movement was created by top creators from Japan, Canada, and Thailand, and their individual personalities are united in the music of Tokyo Concerto.

  • Composition: Hideaki Takahashi (Japan)
  • Sound Effects: Makato Shozu (Japan)
  • First movement video: DecideKit (Thailand)
  • Second movement video: AVA Animation & Visual Arts (Canada)

First movement: Creation from Nature

Going back to the time before people began their cultural activities, we are reminded of the nature that has watched over us since ancient times. The mountains, rivers, and the sea are the pride of Tokyo's rich and vibrant nature, and the time that has passed since the beginning of time is leisurely expressed in the opening movement.

Second movement: Cultural Diversity

From the Edo period (1603-1867), when Tokyo flourished as the center of Japan, to the present day, a variety of cultures and technologies have been created in this period of change. The people who have embraced various cultures and values and created diversity in Tokyo are glamorously dancing.

Third Movement: Technology and Future

Tokyo is the home of many factories and world-class technology. Tokyo also boasts world-class advanced technology and safety in architecture and transportation, and its technology and people will open up a future full of creativity and hope.
